The Calanchi di Montenero di Bisaccia are erosive forms typical of clayey soils, created as a result of the action of rainwater, which give a characteristic appearance to the area. The clayey and therefore impermeable constitution of the soil is one of the characterizing factors of the area, together with a steep slope, southern exposure, scarce vegetation, a climate with intense and short rainfall and massive solar radiation in the summer. Also given the peculiarities of the flora and fauna present, the area has been identified by the Ministry of the Environment as a Site of Community Interest (SIC) to be enhanced, protected and developed. In fact, on the badlands a flora is established mainly consisting of herbaceous plants, with a dominance of grasses, which form the priority habitat. The environment is sub-steppe, characterized by compact marbles, sometimes leafy and marbled clays of your types: varicolored and blue.
