The Justice and Revenue Office
The Schenken castle of Tautenburg was built between 1605 and 1608. The great fire on May 17, 1638 (old census) destroyed almost the entire town, including the castle. In 1776, the Justice Office was relocated from Tautenburg to Frauenprießnitz and merged with the Revenue Office.
In 1780, the Justice and Revenue Office was built on the walls of the old castle using stones from the demolished Tautenburg castle.
The onion-shaped dome and the barrel-vaulted cellar may still date from the old castle. The office's responsibilities included the collection of taxes, rents, fair fees, and labor pensions (feudal services). A judge had his office in the building, and a prison room was also available.
