The deer sculpture was created in 1872 as a commission from the landowner Wilhelm Kelbe and originally stood at his court until the Battle of the Nations. With the new construction of his estate, it was installed in his vicinity until 1976. It was created by Johann Heinrich Kurek in the Kunstgiesserei Mägdesprung. It was badly damaged by World War II. In 1976 it was dismantled for scrapping. In 1982, Mölkauer remembered this and founded an interest
community for the restoration of the work of art. In 1984 the deer group was set up again in front of the former Mölkau cultural center. The plastic was affected by the weather, so that another restoration was necessary in 2016.
