A seemingly floating glass cylinder on a shiny granite facade - the exterior of the Schadow Arcades is already attractive, but its interior is the main attraction of the large shopping arcade.

Just a stone's throw away from Königsallee, on the eponymous Schadowstrasse, over 50 retailers of all stripes wait for their customers in the corridors of the spacious building. As with everything in life, it's all about the mix. So you stroll from high street labels like H&M and Zara to exclusive Swiss chocolate manufacturers, from men's fashion outfitters to lingerie boutiques and on to the perfumery. An ice cream? A coffee? An exotic dinner? To have everything to do with the impressive atrium and to keep your feet dry...

The Schadow-Arkaden is a shopping center in downtown Düsseldorf, named after Schadowstrasse, which runs past the arcades. The arcades were built by the architect Walter Brune between 1990 and 1994 and opened in 1994. The shopping center can be reached on foot from the Schadowstraße U, Steinstraße/Königsallee U and Heinrich-Heine-Allee U stops in just a few minutes. The arcades have 55 shops on two levels as well as a dining area in the basement of the arcades.

The building has a shiny granite facade and a seemingly floating glass cylinder at the main entrance.

The tenants include: Branches of H&M, Starbucks, Esprit, Anson’s and Zara.

The arcades have a net sales area of 18,700 m². Inside, everything is made of granite, just like the facade. The prismatic dome that has crowned the arcades since 1994 was designed by Otto Piene.

The floor plan of the building is in the shape of an irregular square. Four straight shopping aisles lead to an atrium containing two glass elevators, a restaurant and an ice cream parlor. The entrances to the arcades are on Schadowstrasse, Berliner Allee, Blumenstrasse and on the corner of Blumenstrasse and Schadowstrasse (main entrance). The arcades also house the Theater an der Kö, a number of offices and practices, and a fitness studio. A dedicated underground car park for customers is also available.

The Schadow Arcades are managed by Rheingrund Immobilien Verwaltungs-GmbH, a subsidiary of the Rheinische Post Mediengruppe. The press house was integrated into the construction of the shopping gallery. The local editorial offices of the Rheinische Post, Antenne Düsseldorf and the Düsseldorfer Anzeiger are located here.

As part of the Kö-Bogen inner-city construction project, the parking garage was expanded by 262 parking spaces. There was a debate about tree felling in 2013.
