Between 1802 and 1817, the Altona merchant Georg Friedrich Baur acquired eleven properties on the Elbe slope in Blankenese and had them designed from 1817 to 1832 by the architect and landscape gardener Joseph Ramée into a romantic landscape park in the English style: with temples, forest huts, a Chinese one Pagoda tower and a cannon mountain from which incoming ships could be greeted with cannon shots. From 1829 to 1836, Baur had Ole Jörgen Schmidt (1793–1848) and Johann Matthias Hansen build a new mansion in the park, a two-story plastered building with a sandstone base on a rectangular floor plan. There he received the sovereign King Christian VIII (Denmark and Norway) and the queen when the couple visited their provinces after his coronation on June 28, 1840.

After Baur's death in 1865, his relatives continued to run the park and the buildings as Fideikommiss. In the middle of the 19th century, despite being privately owned, the park had limited public access at certain times. In 1921 the Baur family sold the park after some parcels were separated off as villa properties. The manor house (today Mühlenberger Weg 33/35) was acquired in 1923 by the current owner L.R. Müller gave the name Katharinenhof. After Blankenese was incorporated by the Greater Altona Act of 1927, the city of Altona acquired the park and was in turn incorporated ten years later by the Greater Hamburg Act. On January 24, 1940, the Katharinenhof with its portal and stable building was placed under monument protection. From 1941 the house was the headquarters of the Luftgau command. After the war, emergency quarters were set up there and the park was partly used for growing vegetables. After renovation in the mid-1950s, the Katharinenhof was the seat of the Blankenese local authority until 2005. The associated stable served as a public library, which earned it the nickname Stable of the Muses. In 2009 the buildings were sold to a private investor.

One of the two Blankenese lighthouses stands on the 45 m high elevation called Kanonenberg.

Very nice building in Baurs Park, which is currently being restored from the outside (Oct. 21).
