This eye-catching former Kichhof is located on Karlsstrasse between Trinitaskirche and Stadtpark.
With the establishment of the new suburb of Gotteslager in the late 16th century, a burial place was laid out here on which the Trinity Church was built from 1588-1589.

This cemetery, located directly behind the Trinitatiskirche to the east, was laid out at the end of the 16th century as "Der alten Gotteslagersche Kirchhof". After a plague epidemic in 1597, this graveyard was already overflowing with more than 400 buried people and had to be enlarged. Since the communities and local residents did not always fulfill their maintenance obligations, it happened at the beginning of the 17th century that the cemetery walls collapsed and cattle grazed in the cemetery. When scratching and digging, it happened that a few corpses were uncovered. After that, Danish mercenaries devastated this area during the 30-year war, dug graves at random and buried their own dead in them. Around 1630 this area became a rampart and all the dead still buried there had to be reburied beforehand. After the end of the Thirty Years' War, this area became the Bastion Corneliusberg. The remaining area within the fortress walls was heaped up and used again as a cemetery. The cemetery was given the name Bürger-Kirchhof and was occupied until 1905. In 1934 a park was created on this site. In 1962 the cemetery was officially deconsecrated, followed by the gymnasium and later the multi-storey car park.

The most prominent burial in this cemetery is that of Eva Lessing, the wife of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing who died in 1778. The exact resting place could not be determined later because there was no gravestone left. The descendants of her daughter Malchen, the Henneberg family, had a memorial stone erected on the edge of the complex in 1929.
