One of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Austria. A leisurely two-hour walk around, there are various places to stop for refreshments – and James Bond has even been there.

Above the blue waters of the lake rise dramatically the steep foothills of the dead mountain. Since the shore is almost undeveloped, you can walk around the picturesque lake on a promenade.

I can not recommend a trip on the toll road to Loser at least in late spring. Nice view but otherwise hardly worth seeing. Instead of 16 € here for the toll rather go to the not far away Tauplitzalm. There it is much nicer and there are great hiking possibilities.

The Altausseer See is one of the most scenic lakes in the Salzkammergut. It is located at the foot of the Loser in a wonderful mountain landscape. The water is crystal clear and has a slightly dark blue color. That is why the Altausseer See is also called the "dark blue inkwell".

A scenic hike in the Styrian Salzkammergut. A leisurely walk around Lake Altaussee. The path is suitable for strollers and is therefore ideal for families. Several restaurants invite you to stop for a break along the way.

Lake Altaussee is certainly one of the most romantic places in Austria. The view of the Dachstein glacier in the second part of the trail is not only a particularly popular photo motif, but will also remain in your memory forever - with or without a camera.
Lake Altaussee is three kilometers long, up to one kilometer wide and surrounded to the north and east by the foothills of the Totes Gebirge, and is drained by the Altausseer Traun, one of the three source rivers of the Traun.

We went for a walk today. Despite the rainy weather, it was a beautiful sight with lovely autumn colors and snow-capped peaks. It was peaceful, and we saw whole herds of deer crossing our path. Be sure to wear good hiking shoes, as the stones can be slippery.
