Benjamin is lost in thought. You scan the sculptural figure of Maen Florin with your gaze, but she doesn't return your gaze. As with the other sculptures by Florin, this causes some discomfort. Your fairytale puppets are somewhere between the puppet and the person: they are difficult to get at. Benjamin's dog-ears in particular raise questions. In the last century, children were sometimes forced to wear dog-ears as punishment for misconduct. Is Benjamin sitting out a sentence waiting for redemption? Does he play the stubborn donkey or is he - on the contrary - strong and wise, humble and affectionate like a donkey? In the sight of this boy, who embodies a lonely "otherness", hides a game of guilt and innocence that partly explains our discomfort. This game is also often found in fairy tales, which in turn is a clue to the dog-ears. It is reminiscent of the creepy, creepy elements from old German folk tales that evoked a sense of alienation.
