In 1575, Hartmann von Trautmannsdorf began building a moated castle next to this castle, which was completed under Hofkammer President Reichard Streun von Schwarzenau (1538–1600) from the Lower Austrian noble family von Strein (Streen). The castle (copper engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer, 1672) changed hands several times before it fell victim to the flames in 1696. In the 18th century the burned-out Renaissance castle is renovated and baroque-styled.
It is currently owned by Gerhard Zehetdorfer, who bought the castle and around 9,000 m² of land in 1998.

Thürnthal Castle is a baroque-classicist building in the Lower Austrian municipality of Fels am Wagram. Its architecture is a mixture of high baroque forms and classic-antique style elements, which is reminiscent of the classicism that was widespread around fifty years later.
