The structure that most characterizes this mine is certainly the Santa Barbara extraction shaft, otherwise called Sa Macchina Beccia (old machine in Sardinian). This suggestive building, looking similar to a medieval castle, enormously attracts the visitor's attention; unfortunately the entire structure is abandoned and deserves another fate given the charm it covers.

From the Mediterranean maquis of the plateau that housed the San Giorgio mine, this building that looks like a castle rises majestically. It housed a huge steam engine used for mining.
