There was a church on this site from the end of the 14th century, with a choir from 1637, which was rebuilt after a fire in 1706, preserving part of the former choir. The current church is from 1907-1909 and stands on the same site.

"... Aubel is a Belgian commune in the Walloon province of Liège with 4246 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) and an area of 18.83 km².

The municipality includes the hamlet of Saint-Jean-Sart (Dutch Sint Jansrade) and La Clouse (German Klause). While French is spoken almost exclusively in the Aubeler Land today, a Limburg dialect was spoken well into the 20th century. The municipality is part of Land van Herve and the surrounding area is predominantly agricultural.

The area around Aubel is known for the products of its food industry. Large slaughterhouses, meat processing plants, as well as cheese production, cider, beer and apple herb (Sirop de Liège). These products are exported worldwide and offered at the market that takes place every Sunday in the town centre. ..."
