The French village of Pfetterhouse is located in the Sundgau. The first French soldier died here: Corporal Peugeot. In order not to forget this trench warfare, André Dubail, a former history teacher, founded the Friends of Kilometer Zero Association. The 7.5 km long kilometer-0 path leads to the starting point of the western front on level, wooded terrain. Here you can see monuments and traces of the French, German and Swiss fronts. The path is accessible in both directions.

From 1871 to 1914 Pfetterhouse was the village of the three borders. The three-country stone at the intersection of the French, Swiss and German borders has become a tourist attraction and international meeting place.

In autumn 1914 the French made the Swiss border at the so-called Largzipfel the starting point of their front. The boundary stone 111 thus became kilometer zero on the western front.
The association Les Amis du Kilomètre Zéro has set itself the goal of maintaining and promoting this historical and symbolic place.
