Opernbrunnen, marble fountains to the right and left of the State Opera, built (1866-1869) by Eduard van der Nüll and August Sicard von Sicardsburg (architecture) and Hanns Gasser (sculptures). The fountain on the left (music fountain) shows allegorical figures of joy, dance and recklessness under the crowning allegory of music, the fountain on the right (Lorelei fountain) shows allegorical figures of sorrow, love and revenge under the crowning Lorelei. Both wells suffered severe damage from air raids on March 12, 1945.
