The Taormina Amphitheater, also known as the Ancient Theater, was built by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC and expanded by the Romans. Making this archaeological site even more spectacular are the breathtaking views of Mount Etna and the sea. Even today, the amphitheater hosts cultural events and concerts in a unique setting.

A previous building was built by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC. Built as a theater for staging plays. This is why today's facility is often referred to as the Teatro Greco.

In the 2nd century B.C. A Roman building was built above it in the 4th century BC. It was converted into an arena in the 2nd century AD. The auditorium was once again significantly expanded. After that, only gladiator and animal fights took place there (Wikipedia).

The location here for the Komoot highlight is incorrect. Further east, see map. It's worth a visit. Admission costs €10 in November 2023. There's a bar upstairs with a spectacular rooftop terrace and sea views. Reasonable prices for Taormina.
