Since 1898 there are gallop races in Cologne. The Cologne racing club founded a year earlier 1897 e.V. is still the landlord on the 55-acre green area called Weidenpescher Park, in which the racetrack is embedded. When the first groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the racetrack took place in 1897, a new sports tradition began in Cologne. The design designed by the Berlin architect Otto March is still strongly influenced today by the almost picturesque building substance of its founding years. Anyone wandering around the racetrack area away from a race day can hardly escape the charm of the old grandstands and the old buildings. In addition, almost all new buildings added over the years are based on them. Old and new together form a beautiful architectural harmony. In front of this time-honored backdrop, the Cologne Gallop races have been held for well over a hundred years.
