The northern part of the town hall dates from the time the town was founded in 1292. Gothic vaults in this area of the town hall and in the Ratskeller indicate this. The north gable in the Weser Renaissance style was built in 1579. A really beautiful building

The old town hall, one of the oldest buildings in the city, consists of two parts.
When Duke Otto der Strenge had the city of Celle built according to his plans in 1292, the town hall on the market was also built. The building is an impressive testimony to the Duchy. It was expanded and richly decorated in the 14th and 16th centuries.

The old town hall in the city center occupies a special position in this medieval environment with colorful half-timbered houses, because the extensively restored building presents itself to the visitor as a massive stone building with its facade paintings.

With construction beginning around 1300, the old town hall is one of the oldest preserved buildings in the city of Celle. The structural version in which it is presented to today's visitor dates from different eras. The richly decorated north wing with the Ratskeller dates from the 16th or 17th century, the much simpler south wing from the late 18th century.

The old town hall in Celle is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful buildings in the city of Celle. Starting around 1560, Celle's town hall was built by master masons Jakob Rieß and Frederic Soltersborg from Salzburg, incorporating Gothic elements from a previous building. The central eastern gable dates from 1562, and the northern decorative gable dates from 1579. The building underwent numerous additions and modifications in the following centuries: a simple brick structure, the so-called "Wedding House," was added between 1580 and 1593, and the courtroom porch dates from 1599. A loft at the southern end was added at the beginning of the 17th century. A neoclassical remodeling followed in 1785, and in 1938 the building was extended by two axes to the south.
