This large artificial lake has its origins in the 16th century, within the landscape project entrusted by King Felipe II to the architect Juan Bautista de Toledo, for the conditioning of the Royal Site of the Casa de Campo. After an extensive restoration carried out in 2018, the lake is a perfect place to enjoy nature while having a drink in the bars and restaurants located around it, as well as to practice water sports or rent one of its boats.

The large shallow lake was created when the previously unused wild marshy lowland forest were not only used for royal hunting parties, but also turned into a then more fashionable managed gardens that can be seen from the height of the palace and extend far to the hills in the west. Probably the largest piece of nature in the metropolis that has expanded into the region over the past couple of centuries.
