With a volume of over 4.5 million liters of seawater and a height of over four floors, the size of the oceanarium gives a natural impression of the North Sea. Among other things, it shows the rare sunfish. The seal pool with 8 to 10 seals can be found in an outdoor area. These are not animals that have been captured, but rather museum-born animals or howlers. The main basin holds almost 1 million liters of sea water. It was built in the 1990s after the seal pool built in 1984 proved too small. A glass tunnel gives the opportunity to see the seals underwater (Wikipedia).

The North Sea Oceanarium in Hirtshals is one of Denmark's biggest attractions. The popular attraction opened in 1984. At that time it was still called the North Sea Museum until 1998, when it was expanded with an oceanarium of 4.5 million liters of water.
It is a breathtaking experience to stand in front of the huge aquarium and watch the sea hare Klumpe, the oceanarium's mascot. At the same time, the museum is really good at taking children and adults beneath the surface and giving them unforgettable and educational experiences.
