The former Grand Ducal Salon building was built in 1801/02 according to plans C. Th. Severin, 1819/21, a large Empire ballroom was added to the garden side. This room offers an impressive setting for classical concerts. The salon building is used as an administrative building by the Bad Doberan district.
Visits to the festival hall are possible during the opening hours of the administration by telephone. The ballroom is considered the best preserved interior of the city.

The grand ducal ensemble of Bad Doberan has been the summer residence of the Mecklenburg princely house since 1793, characterized by an extensive ensemble of ducal architecture: Friedrich Franz I decided in 1805 "to have a palace of its own built there for Höchst-Sich."
