I've driven past there many times and never really knew what to do with the object, so today I stopped and took a look and I can only recommend everyone to do the same.
The Peace Chapel, next to the Russian Cemetery of Honor of the 44 Russian forced laborers who died, is really a peaceful place, but in addition to the tranquility it also has great, worldly aspects. The door of the chapel is always open and it is allowed to go in there, either to enjoy a moment of devotion or to rest or shelter. In front of the chapel there is a bench with a view of the Wuppertalsperre and a small round table with seating on the side.
The place takes me back to the time when these young soldiers, maybe just 25 years old, were imprisoned in a Germany and tortured to death there. I imagine who they were and I imagine who they are today, these young soldiers who are certainly not much older than they are being sent east or west in the Ukraine. It's probably these poor, misguided and instrumentalized human beings again. I find that so sad, for the children, for all of us, for us stupid monkeys, for us the human family.
