Pretty quiet corner on the way between Emstek and Schneiderkrug. A covered bench and a sign with the long history of Sülzbühren await you. The Heuerhaus on the corner is a bit ramshackle, but still interesting from an architectural point of view because of the visible wickerwork. "The place name Sülzbühren first appears in the light of history in 947, as the location of a main or salhof within a court association, a so-called villication. At that time, this court association was donated to the Enger monastery near Herford.
On July 14, 947, King Otto the Great donated the property of Count Dietrich to the monastery in Enger, founded by his mother Mathilde, in a document signed by him. The farm association includes a total of 23 independent farms with their families, including five families from Sülzbühren and one from Bühren.
Sülzbühren, north of Bühren, is mentioned in this document under the name "selispura" (selinc = old Germanic first name). Sülzbühren appears in later sources with the following names: 1121 Silisburin, 1256 curtis selesburen, 1238 Sulzburen and 1479 Silsburen. It is assumed that the first part of the name can be interpreted as a derivation of the word "Sal" (=Salhof).
In the 10th century, Sülzbühren was probably a stately Sal or Meierhof whose landlords had the farm run by propertyless owners. These were supervised by an administrator (Meier). Perhaps the main courtyard in Sülzbühren was built on a Saxon Althof.
The family names Gerdesmeyer and Hinrichsmeyer emerged from this Meierhof in Sülzbühren. Because the Meierhof was divided between two brothers, Gerd and Heinrich, in the Middle Ages, hence the farm names that still exist today. It is remarkable that the Gerdesmeyer family is popularly called "Hinnersmeyer" and the Hinrichsmeyer family "Metkemeyer" (Metke = Mechthild - Mathilde). It is said that the Meierhof in Sülzbühren belonged to the bridal estate of Queen Mathilde, who lived from 895 to 968.
In the past, part of the Gerdesmeyer farm was also a Heuerhaus, which has been preserved to this day and is located on the corner of Sülzbührener Straße and Hoher Weg. This historic building has now been placed under monument protection.
It was not until the 20th century that decorative residential buildings were built on Sülzbührener Straße and Hoher Weg, which allowed Sülzbühren to grow into a stately district."
