St. Stephen's Church is located on what used to be the late Roman road, today's Wessenbergstrasse; at that time it stood outside the area around the episcopal church and the inhabited settlement. Archaeological excavations carried out north of the church in the 1950s showed that St. Stephen's Church was in the area of a late Roman burial ground of the 3rd-4th centuries. century lay; possibly it served as a small cemetery church.
