"Originally dedicated to St. Bartholomew - The Volmarstein village church is a listed church building in the center of Volmarstein, a district of Wetter (Ruhr) in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Protestant parish church is located below the Volmarstein castle ruins.

History and architecture:

The church was originally dedicated to St. Bartholomew. In 1564, the Volmarstein parish joined Martin Luther's Reformation and has been Protestant ever since.

The building made of Ruhr sandstone is a simple rectangular hall building with a wooden ceiling. A vaulted, Gothic sacristy is attached to the south side of the essentially Romanesque building. The central nave dates from the 12th century. The west tower is dated 1752. The last renovation was carried out in 1996.

Furnishings:

An altarpiece from 1678 shows the Last Judgement.

The Baptismal font was created in 1786.

Organ:

The altar organ was built between 1732 and 1734 by Gerhard von Holy. In 1819 a pedal was added, and in 1863–1864 a second manual and an independent pedal were added by Carl Herbst. In the course of a reconstruction by Paul Ott, the instrument was expanded and received a new action, new wind chests and a new wind system. 70% of the historical pipe material has been preserved in a modified form; a reconstruction in accordance with the monument has not yet taken place."
