The twin town of Joal-Fadiouth is located in the Thiès region about 110 km southeast of Dakar on the Petite Côte Senegals. Fadiouth is located on one of three islands made of shells whose buildings are decorated with shells. You reach the island via a wooden bridge. All the paths and some of the masonry on the island are shells. Worth seeing is a tour of the fishing village, the market, the church and the unique Muslim-Catholic shell cemetery on the neighboring island. Usually you have to book a guide, otherwise you will not have any peace from intrusive begging children. A trip by boat along the island and to the granaries that border the island is definitely recommended.
