Dutch windmill "Edda"

The historic Hoper mill "Edda" is the landmark of St. Michaelisdonn. The mill is in the district of Hopen on the Geestrand on the old cliff, the Klev, and can be seen from afar.

Landmark of the municipality of St. Michaelisdonn

The "Edda" mill deserves a special mention among the mills, not only because of its structural beauty (thatched roof, wooden paneling of the lower part), but also because of its wonderful location above the Geestrand. Its predecessor, a post mill made of beech wood, is said to have been moved here in 1666 to replace a neighboring water mill that had to be shut down due to a lack of water. When the famous theologian and son of a miller, Claus Harms, married the daughter of Hoper Müller in 1806, the wings of the Bockmühle were in scissors.

When the old building was demolished in 1842, a beam with the inscription “A. D. 1666 May 8” Used in the new Bergholländer, which was first called “Immanuel”. Mill builder Paul Jacobs carried out the new building and since 1886 the mill has had blind wings. Since 1912 it has been driven by a wind rose.
