In Central Europe, the bald cypress reaches a height of approx. 25 metres. In its natural habitat in the USA along the Mississippi, in Mexico and Guatemala, it reaches a height of approx. 35 to 40 metres.
Taxodium distichum forms thick and massive trunks with a diameter of 350 cm at breast height. These breast-height diameters have also been observed in German experimental buildings since their introduction in 1680.
The growth rate is classified as medium. This forest specialist achieves annual growth of between 20 and 30 cm.
The conical crown gives the tree a slender and monumental appearance. This gorgeous crown then transitions into a rounded tip.

The first bald cypresses in the city of Brandenburg an der Havel were planted by the then councilor Johann Gottfried Bröse in 1841 on Grillendamm. The avenue of deciduous conifers is unique in size in Europe and
is a botanical landmark of the city.
