Bursfelde Abbey is a former Romanesque-style Benedictine abbey and was founded in 1093 by Count Heinrich the Fat of Northeim. Today it serves as a spiritual center for the Evangelical-Lutheran regional church. The monastery is located directly on the Weser and is part of the Loccum-Volkenroda pilgrimage route. The church is open daily and offers the opportunity for inner contemplation, for example in the room of silence.

"Hear what sounds locally"
This place is very special. When entering the church, the visitors become silent of their own accord. It doesn't need signs saying "silence". At the back left of the chapel you can light a candle and write something, including a prayer, in the guest book. Anyone who withdraws and turns inward can hear for themselves what sounds to them in this place.
The monastery is located approximately in the middle of the Loccum - Volkenroda pilgrimage route (loccum-volkenroda.de/). The large pilgrim hostel (kloster-bursfelde.de/kloster/pilgerherberge) is often not noticed by visitors on the way to the church. But the voluntary hostel mothers and fathers are happy to show how pilgrims live today. Don't just walk in, but stay on the carpet at the entrance and let yourself be shown (the stones from the gravel path under your shoes will destroy the wooden floor) - and be happy to leave a donation for the pilgrims' hostel.
Daily evening prayer at 6 p.m.
