At 28 kilometers, Brende Å is the largest "river" in West Funen, and the river receives many "tributaries" along the way. Brende Å rises west of Tommerup St. and flows into the Little Belt about 10 kilometers north of Assens. On the way the water falls at least 40 meters, and on the way there are many small rapids, almost small waterfalls, especially west of Aarup (business city / growth city) and in Ørsbjerg Skov (forest), where you can see / admire beautiful erosion valleys.
The river has been using water power since 1500 or earlier. At Vestergade 80, Aarup, there was a beautiful water mill for centuries until 1884, where the farmers could grind their grain.
Many interesting birds and plants can be seen by the river, and in spring 2016 a fishing route was opened for everyone around the city of Aarup (3,300 inhabitants). You really have to have a fishing license if you want to catch trout and / or sea trout.
