Along the Oemberg are numerous streams: Schengertholzbach and Bachärme of the Wambach, so it is often wet and foggy at the brook. Since the Oemberg is slightly higher than the surrounding areas, in good weather, a view towards Uhlenhorst and the Saarner dome is possible.

The nature reserve (NSG) "Wambachtal and Oembergmoor" is located in the south-west of the Mülheim urban area and belongs to the contiguous forest area "Broich-Speldorfer Wald". It includes the course of the Wambaches with tributary streams and large forest areas; in the middle part it narrows to the creek with adjacent five meter wide buffer strip (grassland). A short section of the Wambaches runs west of the route of the A3 to the mouth in the duck fishing (former gravel pit). In the estuary, an alder quarry has developed with numerous typical plant species.

Parts of the nature reserve are located in the catchment area of the Wambaches LB "Oembergmoor"; and "Wambach's upper reaches" as well as the existing Wambachniederung nature reserve (see Landschaftsplan Stadt Mülheim an der Ruhr of 1 June 1982).
