On Monte CORNETTO, at almost exactly 1,900 meters, hikers will also encounter a summit cross. With no visible base, the iron cross appears to have grown out of the rock. At the bottom of the longitudinal beam is a wooden storage box for a summit book—common on some mountains. The cross itself is essentially simple but dignified in its design and features a striking detail: a bell hangs in the open circular crossing point between the longitudinal and transverse beams.
