            Gutenberg introduced printing to Strasbourg and lived there from 1439 to 1444. His statue can be found in the square of the same name not far from the cathedral.

            The artist David d' Angers created the bronze statue in 1840. Gutenberg's hand holds a page from the holy scriptures on which the line 'And there was light' can be read.

                          Place Gutenberg is located in Greater Strasbourg Island. It was built around 1100.
                          In the middle of the square stands the statue of the German printer Johannes Gutenberg 1, holding in his hand a parchment with the words: "And the light was". The main building adjacent to the square is the New Building, the former Strasbourg town hall and the current Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bas-Rhin.

                                        Place Gutenberg is dominated by the building of the Chamber of Commerce, which was built as a municipal building at the beginning of the 1580s.
