The Kammerzell House (also Kammerzellhaus, French: Maison Kammerzell, Alsatian: Kammerzellhüs) is the most famous secular building in Strasbourg. It is a bourgeois half-timbered house built in 1427 and rebuilt in 1467, which received a rich carved façade in 1589.
It is considered one of the most beautiful half-timbered houses of late German Gothic, comparable to the (1944 burned) salt house in Frankfurt am Main or the (rebuilt) Knochenhaueramtshaus in Hildesheim, but is in contrast to these preserved in the original substance.
The house stands on the north side of the Cathedral Square (Place de la Cathédrale), to the side of Strasbourg Cathedral, and houses a restaurant ("Maison Kammerzell") and a small hotel (9 rooms).

The remarkable building was built in 1427, rebuilt in 1467 and equipped in 1589 with its fascinating carving façade. The name Maison Kammerzell dates back to its owner in the 19th century. From 1891 to 1892 the building was completely restored. A façade is decorated with zodiac signs under the windows. In the interior of the restaurant you will find elaborate murals by Leo Schnug (1878-1933). From the outdoor terrace you have a beautiful view of the action on the Cathedral Square.

The Gothic foundations of the building date from 1427. The three floors with ornamented half-timbering were built in 1467 and 1589, giving it its special touch. On the façade, the detailed sculptures extol the virtues of the humanistic ideal of the Renaissance, which unites medieval nobility and ancient culture. The 75 windows with bottle-shaped stained glass windows embellish the interior of the rooms with a warm light.

Right on the square of the imposing cathedral, this house doesn't stand out because everyone is looking at the church. But this house with its many carvings should also be given some attention.

Probably the most famous house in Strasbourg after the cathedral is the Kammerzell House on Münsterplatz. It dates back to a building from 1467, of which only the stone ground floor remains and which was purchased in 1571 by the wealthy merchant Martin Braun.
In 1891/92 and again in 1954 the building was completely restored and was given a darker color that did not correspond to the condition of the 16th century.
