Small, whitewashed brick church. The oldest building dates from around 1220, otherwise late Gothic. Renovated between 1830 and 1831. The frescoes in the church date from the 16th century, some of which were repainted throughout.

Like many of the churches on Langeland, this church was built in the 13th century and is made of rough and split rocks. It is particularly noteworthy that small heads are engraved in the area of the base stones.
General Frederik Ahlefeldt Laurvig was responsible for a general renovation and extension of the church in the 19th century. This included the construction of all the gables of the church and the upper part of the tower.

The base of the baptismal font, made of granite, is more recent, as is the pulpit, although it is in the Renaissance style. The church also contains a fresco from 1523 with a very special design of the Danish coat of arms (Arma Danorum).
In 1971, the remains of a lamb's skeleton were found under the church roof. It was popular belief that the church lamb protected against death and misfortune. This discovery confirmed this. A similar find was also made in Tullebølle Church.
