      The geological subsoil of the "Twelve Apostles" is formed by thick layered limestone of Treuchtlingen Marble, a type of rock from the White Jura. The so-called "sponge limestone" weathers harder and therefore remained as prominent rocks. Since 1984 a protected area with vegetation worth seeing.
