The hiking trail above the Apostles is particularly beautiful. From every rock there is a different view in both directions, in between the precious grasslands and meadows with countless rare butterflies and grasshoppers. Feel free to use a good book or an app to identify species.

One of the scenic highlights in the Altmühltal Nature Park is the rock group of the Twelve Apostles. The mighty towering dolomite rocks between Solnhofen and Eßlingen greet boaters on the Altmühl, cyclists on the Altmühltal cycle path and hikers on their tours around Solnhofen.

Others became natural forests by natural succession. However, since extensively used, open, lean sites have become rare, juniper heaths are kept open today for reasons of nature and landscape conservation. For grazing today, shepherds throughout Germany receive funds from nature conservation or agricultural programs.
