The oldest castle complex in Munich from the 12th century on the north-east edge of the medieval old town. Abandoned in the 16th century in favor of the Neuveste (residence), since then it has been the seat of various administrations, repeatedly used and rebuilt. After the destruction in World War II, new buildings were added, most recently after 2001. The "Lorenzistock" by the architect Peter Kulka is particularly worth mentioning.
In summer there are events in the courtyard, e.g. "Franconian Wine Festival" in July.
In front of the northern gate there is an equestrian statue of Emperor Ludwig des Bayern, the only Bavarian emperor.

The Alte Hof (formerly also Alte Veste) was built as a ducal city castle in the late 12th century in Munich's old town.
From around 1255 it became the residence of the Dukes of Upper Bavaria, and later of Bavaria as a whole.
It also served as the imperial residence of Ludwig the Bavarian.
The building complex in the old town consists of the Burgstock, Zwingerstock, Lorenzistock, Pfisterstock and Brunnenstock sections.
