The lock, which has existed since 1865, was renovated in 1965 with concrete chamber walls and automated in 2004. The lock is activated using the request levers at the waiting points in the respective outer harbor. During operation in the summer months, up to 10,000 pleasure boats are on the move here. It is one of three locks that must be overcome on the way from Berlin to Scharmützelsee.

The Wendisch Rietz lock has been set up as a self-service lock. The lock is monitored by the Storkow control center.
The usable dimensions of the lock are:

Chamber length: 34.00 m
Chamber width: 5.30 m
Drop height: 1.27 m

The Wendisch Rietz lock is one of the three locks in the Storkower waters that you have to overcome on the way from Berlin to the Scharmutzelsee. Today, as a rule, only passenger ships and up to 10,000 sports boats pass through the lock in summer. The lock only operates in summer. In the past, the waterway was used to transport timber and was dimensioned for the Finow-Maßkahn.
The lock was built in 1865 from masonry. The sole consists of wooden planks. In the course of the renovation in 1965, the chamber walls were covered with concrete. The heads are equipped with mortise gates. The chamber is filled via shooters in the gates. The drives are electromechanical. The lock was automated in 2004.
EThe lock is started by operating the request lever at the waiting point of the respective outer port.
