      The castle and gardens of Brody (Pörten) were built between 1740-1763 by its owner, the Saxon prime minister and imperial count Heinrich von Brühl (1700-1763) and by royal visits from Augustus III.                     The castle was built in 1680 by Count Ulrich Hipparchos von Promnitz on the site of the medieval Pförten Castle. From 1741 to 1749 it was rebuilt for Count Heinrich von Brühl in the Rococo style according to designs by Johann Christoph Knöffel. In the years that followed it was a favorite residence of Count von Brühl.

                      In 1758 the castle was burned down by Prussian troops on the orders of King Friedrich II. A restoration took place around 1858. From 1919 to 1924 it was rebuilt.
