Borghetto is a town in the province of Verona which stands on a ford of the river Mincio. In medieval times it was used as a toll booth. Thanks to the Visconti (dukes of Milan) the village acquired importance and a defensive wall was built around the town. The Duke of Milan, in a dispute with the Gonzagas in Mantua, decided to build a dam to divert the Mincio river and finally dry up the lakes around Mantua. The project failed and a wooden bridge over the Mincio was built instead.

Borghetto is a district of Valeggio. Translated, Borghetto means "small village." It lies on both banks of the Mincio River below the Visconti Bridge. Borghetto was once a fishing village. It has developed into a popular tourist destination, home to various restaurants and bars. The watermills, some of which are still in operation, are noteworthy. The two districts on the river are connected by a wooden bridge. In the eastern part stands an 18th-century church dedicated to St. Mark the Evangelist. It was built on the remains of an older Romanesque church from the 11th century.

Very beautiful and romantic place, also convenient to reach by bike thanks to the cycle path that goes from Peschiera del Garda, passes right from Borghetto and goes to Mantua
