Borghetto is a district of Valeggio. Translated, Borghetto means something like: “small village”. It lies on both sides of the Mincio River below the Visconti Bridge. Borghetto used to be a fishing village. It has become a popular tourist spot. This means there are various restaurants and bars. The water mills, some of which are still in operation, are remarkable. The two districts on the river are connected by a wooden bridge. In the eastern part there is a church from the 18th century dedicated to the Evangelist Mark. It was built on the remains of an older Romanesque church from the 11th century.

The picturesque Borghetto is one of the most beautiful towns in Italy and is known far beyond its borders for its cuisine and excellent restaurants. The former fortified village, founded around 1400, brought prosperity to the community in the Middle Ages thanks to dozens of mills and water wheels (some of which are still in operation today).
