The Basilica of Saint Servatius is a Baroque church in the Belgian town of Grimbergen (province of Flemish Brabant). The basilica is considered one of the most beautiful and harmonious Baroque churches in the Low Countries. The church is part of the Norbertine abbey of Grimbergen and also serves as a parish church. In 1999, on the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, the church was granted the honorary title of basilica.
After the religious wars, a peaceful and prosperous period began in the Southern Netherlands with the well-considered policy of Albrecht and Isabella (1598 - 1621). This allowed the Norbertine community to build a new church under the abbacy of Carolus Fernandez de Velasco. In 1660, construction began on the abbey church according to the plans of the Norbertine Gilbertus van Zinnik (1627 - 1665). The building was built in a triumphant and festive Baroque style that also bears witness to the spirit of the Council of Trent (1545-1563) and the Catholic Reformation. In 1700, the works had progressed to the point where the church could be consecrated.
