Kato (lower) Mili and Pano (upper) Mili are the two old abandoned villages in the Mühlental.
The settlements were first mentioned in 1643 during the Venetian rule. After 1645 under Ottoman rule, the Ottomans mainly inhabited the village of Kato Mili. The approximately 30 mills on the river bed supplied the entire area of Rethymnon with flour.
In the 1960s, the residents of the Mühlental moved to Nei (Neu) Mili.
