The Schenkenhorst church was originally probably a small half-timbered building, which was destroyed by repeated lightning strikes. The present church was built in 1872 in the neo-romantic style. From the old church remained preserved the tomb and the coffins contained there.
The interior design of the church was kept deliberately simple, outweighing light and brightness.
The baroque baptismal font is the oldest piece of equipment in the church. Just like a hinged Schmitzaltar this still belongs to the inventory of the previous building.
Since 1990, numerous renovations (roofs, windows) were carried out, 2005 was the color redesign of the interior. Since 2001, the building is a listed building.
Another special feature is the organ, which is one of the largest in the district Gardelegen. Since 2001, the community has been intensively involved with the restoration of the organ, which was then carried out in 2012 with the help of numerous donations, charity events and public funding. Since this repair, numerous concerts are held annually.
As part of a NABU project, since 2013 the tower of the Schenkenhorst church has become a habitat for swifts, kestrels and bats.
