    The Tormühle is located right next to the Salzwedeler Tor. Both are absolute landmarks of the Hanseatic City of Salzwedel. The gate mill was one of the town's most important sources of income up to the end of the 19th century. On the one hand it was an inn and on the other hand the surrounding villages delivered their grain here for grinding. Today there is no sign above the entrance portal on the left and the lighting on the right. We couldn't stop there. Hopefully it won't be left to decay.

        The Tormühle was first mentioned in a document in 1290. It belonged to the city and brought in considerable income. Various villages in the surrounding area were obligated to grind, they had to have their grain ground here. Milling continued into the second half of the 20th century.

          One of Gardelegen's landmarks is the Salzwedeler Tor. It is one of the four city gates from the 16th century and is part of the old fortification ring of the city wall. After it had almost completely fallen into disrepair, the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV had the gate repaired. You can still walk through the passage of the impressive battery towers today. Noteworthy is the stepped gable, a building feature from the early 20th century
