The rococo garden Veitshöchheim is a garden that is unparalleled in Europe. Because while in the 19th century the magnificent parks were mostly transformed into natural English gardens, the garden around the summer residence of the Würzburg prince-bishops was preserved in the rococo style.
The snail shell is one of the highlights. Here you can u.a. admire figures made of snail shells.

The grotto house in the southeast corner of the Veitshöchheim Rococo garden is also called the snail house.

The building (plan no. 62) is an octagonal, two-storey building and was built by the building officer Johann Philipp Geigel and the court stucco artist Materno Bossi between 1772 and 1773. In the basement, an artificial rock grotto made of sponge stone, mythical creatures live in the jagged niches that were reconstructed in the 1930s. With the exception of a bird above the entrance door, all other originals had already been lost by the end of the 19th century. The Belvedere is also known colloquially as the "snail house".

The exterior of the pavilion above the grotto has Ionic half-columns at the corners and the wall structure already shows a classicist severity. Between the half-columns there are antique-style decorations with ram skulls and hangings.
