    The Käppele is located on the hiking trail between Erlabrunn and Leinach. From there you can also enjoy the wonderful view over Erlabrunn and the Main Valley.

          The Erlabrunn Käppele "Maria Hilf" is a small pilgrimage chapel on the Volkenberg near Erlabrunn. When the chapel was built, it stood in an open area; today it stands on the edge of the largest black pine forest in Germany. From the chapel you have a good view over Erlabrunn and the Main Valley to Würzburg.

          An inscription on the back of the chapel reads: “IOHANN MÜLLER HAS TISEN PILSTOCK MADE FROM ERLENPRUNN - 1773”, whereby a wayside shrine is to be equated with a field chapel. Today's chapel was built by the widow Katharina Küffner from Leinach in 1875, with craftsmen from the neighboring communities largely taking part in the construction on a voluntary basis. The chapel is named "in honor of Maria Hilf" because there is a 1.20 m tall statue of the Virgin Mary, which was referred to in the records from 1875 as "Maria Hilf". The official inauguration took place on September 24, 1876.

                              The chapel was open, and one could linger undisturbed. The altar and side windows were decorated with fresh flowers. Very beautifully maintained.
