As early as 1363, a standard earth mill - undoubtedly a grain mill - was built on Texel. Of course, given the small population of the island, the number of grain mills has been rather limited over time. During the most recent restoration, only the devices for generating electricity, which impeded manual operation, were removed and two grinders with new artificial stones were reinstalled. The mill can now be visited as part of the Kaap Skil Museum.

De Traanroeier

The mill was installed in Oudeschild in 1902, but before that it was a grain mill in Zaandam. It was the first mill to be built in Oudeschild, but flour mills have existed on Texel since 1383. Today the mill is the only remaining flour mill on the island. Already in 1935 the mill was no longer used. The mill was saved from decay in 1943 when the municipality of Texel bought the mill.
