Theotimus and Fredericus Verhaeghen were sent as Friars Minor missionaries to China to bring religion and civilization there. In July 1904 they were martyred together in Cha-tse-ti (Hou-Pé Region or Hubei / South-West China) during an episcopal visitation. According to the Chinese version, this murder was the result of a conflict between Catholic and Protestant Chinese.
