Carcassonne is a city in the Occitanie region of southern France. The medieval fortress La Cité with numerous watchtowers and a double wall is particularly famous. The first walls were built in Gallo-Roman times, most extensions were made in the 13th and 14th. Century. In the Château Comtal, a castle from the 12th century located within the fortress, archaeological exhibits are shown and guided tours of the inner ramparts are offered. (Wikipedia)
