The baroque courtly way of life demanded befitting pleasures outside the official representation obligations. The palace park not only provided the ideal opportunity, but also contributed to the absolutist display of power and self-portrayal of Frederick II and his successors. Another attraction of the tea house were the exotic plants, which could now be permanently housed thanks to the newly built orangery instead of the old greenhouses. In the warmer seasons, these noble plants not only adorned the gardens with the small pond in front of the orangery, but also found some space in the kitchen garden. (Source: teehaus-Altenburg.de)
